POSITION SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, the Lead Carpenter leads work teams, oversees, prioritizes, assigns and coordinates daily staff activities. The lead carpenter performs a variety of technical tasks related to the maintenance and good repair of building woodwork, and equipment. The position requires practical skill and knowledge in carpentry, and attention to knowing and using safe work practices. This position applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manuals or similar documents.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Leads a work team, prioritizes, assigns and coordinates daily staff activities.
2. *Trains and assists workers in performing duties.
3. *Know and train workers in the safe and proper use of products and equipment to meet quality and safety standards.
4. *Monitors progress of tasks and inspects completed work to ensure quality.
5. *Uses carpenter’s tools such as hand and power tools, woodworking machines, levels, routers, sanders, saws, squares; hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, glue.
6. *Measures and marks cutting lines on materials. Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements.
7. *Installs, removes, and repairs walls, patching, ceilings, floors, roofs, decks, stairs, handrails, doors, siding, locks, and glass.
8. *Assembles and fastens materials, installs structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, screens, trim and hardware.
9. *Builds, removes, or repairs cabinets, flooring, doors, windows, frameworks, and other wooden fixtures used in buildings.
10. *Erects scaffolding and ladders to assemble structures.
11. *Applies finishing touches by sanding, staining, and painting.
12. *Inspect own work and work of team to ensure meets quality standards.
13. *Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure tools and equipment run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and buildings do not deteriorate.
14. *Documents service orders with actions and progress notes, ensuring accuracy before submitting in a timely manner.
15. *Follows procedures, regulations, and guidelines, minimizing errors and risks.
16. *Diagnoses problems and determines how to correct them.
17. *Communicates with customer on issues relating to work performed.
18. *Maintains good working relationship with workers and customer.
19. *May read blueprints, sketches or building plans.
20. *Makes computation for project and determines dimensions, man hours, and materials required, and may assist in preparing necessary paperwork for subcontracting.
21. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of five years of work experience in carpentry, or demonstrated knowledge and ability to properly use tools of the trade;
• Mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division;
Measurement of dimensions;
• May be required to own, use, and maintain tools at work;
• Ability to manage and accurately track material resources and time, and adapt to changing work priorities;
• Ability to work independently;
• Ability to follow established safety rules and regulations;
• Effective communication skills to give and request information, to respond to customer inquiries and requests, vendors, management and co-workers;
• Demonstrated organizational, and common sense skills, including ability to diagnose issues, problem-solve and escalate matters appropriately;
• Ability to work independently and with co-workers, customers and management;
• Ability to travel to various facilities.
• Ability to read, write, speak English fluently as required by contract.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
Technical/other training
CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
Valid Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• Maneuvering to and around equipment
• Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching
• Climbing stepstools or ladders
• Lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
