SUPERVISES: 
There are no direct reports with this position.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Under general supervision, the Mechanic safely and efficiently provides repair and maintenance duties for commercial vehicles including diesel and gasoline powered engines.  Employees in this job classification are responsible for preventative maintenance, vehicle inspection and minor and major repairs.  This job class requires the ability to use and operate computer programs to diagnose, report and maintain commercial vehicles and maintain related records. 

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Diagnoses and repairs various vehicles including gasoline and diesel-powered engines and their associated components. 
2. *Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on commercial vehicles including wheelchair lifts, engines, brakes, suspensions, steering and other components. 
3. *Performs on the road repair and towing disabled vehicles to shop.
4. *Maintains accurate records and logs of vehicle maintenance and repairs.   
5. *Operates two-way radio/telephone to communicate with dispatch.
6. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be at least 21 years of age;
• Satisfactory driving record;
• Knowledge of and training in the use of diagnostic, preventative and repair operations, techniques, procedures, tools and equipment used in trade; 
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others;
• Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
• Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team;
• Effective customer service skills;
• Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
• Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
• Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common sense skills.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

 

 

CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

 

Class B, Passenger End

Valid Driver's License

Vehicle/DevDisabledPerson

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 

• Maneuvering in and around equipment
• Bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, crawling
• Pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds
• May be required to climb ladders and/or step stools

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations.  Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility.  Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
