There are direct reports with this position.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under broad supervision, the Construction Supervisor assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of skilled and semi-skilled workers in all phases of carpentry work. Employees in this job class schedule and delegate carpentry jobs to subordinates; coordinate jobs with supervisors of the other trades, and maintain buildings in a excellent state of repair. This job class requires comprehensive knowledge of federal and state building codes and the ability to organize, budget, and manage multiple projects.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Directs and supervises skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, and locksmith work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, scaffolds, wood fixtures, and furniture.
2. *Schedules and prioritizes tasks, and ensures adherence to procedures, regulations and guidelines while minimizing errors and safety risks.
3. *Supervise staff; ensure a competent, motivated staff though hiring, training, counseling, supervising and reviewing the performance of employees.
4. *Manages federal compliance program and develops compliance reports.
5. *Acts as a technical resource to field personnel and actively engages in field issues.
6. *Sketches work plans and blueprints when necessary.
7. *Reviews work in progress and completed to ensure that work is performed according to instructions.
8. *Participates in a variety of departmental and other meetings on a regular basis.
9. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three or more years of experience in the carpentry trade supplemented by two or more years of experience as a skilled carpenter and one year of supervisory experience;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, and tools of the carpentry trade;
• Thorough knowledge of applicable building codes and specifications;
• Comprehensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the carpentry trade;
• Ability to perform and instruct others in a variety of skilled carpentry work;
• Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials required to complete a job;
• Ability to read, interpret, prepare and work from plans, drawings, and sketches;
• Knowledge of ISO 9000;
• Supervisory skills to hire qualified employees, provide for their professional development, administer performance management and disciplinary processes effectively, and address employee relations appropriately;
• Ability to effectively supervise and develop assigned team to meet production/service goals while adhering to safety policies and rules;
• Effective oral and written communication skills using appropriate business English;
• Demonstrated leadership, organizational, common sense and problem solving skills;
• Human relation skills to build effective relationships with team and customers;
• Effective customer service skills;
• Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
• Knowledge of business English including vocabulary and spelling;
• Fundamental mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
• Ability to establish priorities and solve operational problems;
• Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
Technical/other training
CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements.
Fed Security Clearance
Valid Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• Answering phone/making calls
• Viewing computer screen
• Utilizing keyboard
• Maneuvering to and around worksite and equipment
• May require standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces
• Bending, kneeling, stooping and reaching
• Lifting or moving materials up to 35 pounds
• Climbing ladders
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed at a customer’s location in an office/shop environment and on job sites in a construction environment with various tools and equipment. Employees may be exposed to hazardous equipment, toxic substances, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
