There are no direct reports with this position.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Sign Graphic Technician works with specialized software to design, develop, as well as fabricate traffic, streets, roads, informational, and other specialty signs. This position requires the use of specialized computer software to develop high quality computer illustrations and technical drawings supporting various signage used by government installation.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. * Designs graphic and visual traffic signs in accordance with strict conformance with the standards set forth in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD), Installation Design Guide (IDG), and State regulations.
2. * Designs layout, measures and fabricates traffic and required signs using different materials and gauges such as MDO board, aluminum, galvanized sheet metal, plastic, wood, masonry, coroplast, black iron, etc., in accordance with specifications provided by the customer through a valid work document. Fabrication includes being cut, punch, round corners, file, trim, assemble, install, and remove signs.
3. * Operates different types of equipment such as power shears, plotter, cutter, metal punch, band/panel saws, lift equipment, etc.
4. * Maintains equipment to ensure proper operation.
5. * Installs, repairs, replaces, removes, paints, stencils, mounts permanent and temporary signage throughout the Installation.
7. * Applies vinyl surface materials during fabrication process by priming/prepping, weeding and masking process for application of letters/numbers on signs.
8. * Tracks vinyl and hardware material and calculate running inventory, by roll and by DMO job.
9. * Responds to on call and emergency repairs.
10. * Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Five years or more experience in graphic design;
• Ability to follow direction, structured processes, and procedures;
• Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests;
• Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
• Computer literacy to use business software, the Internet, enter date/retrieve data;
• Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, including ability to exercise independent judgment;
• Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving and common-sense skills with an attention to detail;
• Flexibility for responding to competing demands and continually changing work priorities in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to travel to and from worksites.
• Ability to work safely.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED
Technical/other training
CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:
The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
Valid Driver's License
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• Answering phone/making calls
• Maneuvering to and around the worksite
• May require sitting, standing, walking, walking on uneven surfaces
• Bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching;
• Lifting of boxes or equipment up to 50 pounds
• Climbing ladders or step stools
• Viewing computer screen
• Utilizing keyboard
• Communicating with others
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with limited privacy and exposure to noise from others conducting business. The remainder of work is performed on job sites in the field, driving to and from worksite. Employees may be exposed to noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold and heat.
