SUPERVISES: 

This position does not have direct reports.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:   

Under general supervision, the Animal Shelter Technician will ensure the animal kennels are clean and ready for occupancy. Employees in this job class are responsible for daily cleaning tasks that facilitate the animal shelter to house animals for public interaction while following all safety and policies of the County. This position requires awareness of animal safety and us of special cleaning agents for an animal environment.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:  

1.* Daily sanitizing/disinfection of kennels using water hoses and various cleaning products.
2.* Replacing bedding in kennels.
3.* Washing and folding laundry.
4.* General clean up and organization of designated working spaces.
5.* Follow thorough sanitization protocols for kennels, work and play areas, and equipment
6.* Comply with all safety protocols and with the animal shelter’s procedures, policies, and rules.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Ability to use water hoses and various cleaning products safely.
• Ability to work professionally with members of the public, staff, and volunteers.
• Ability to deal with high-stress situations calmly and productively.
• Willingness to adjust tasks in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and respond to questions and requests from team, customers, and others.
• Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team.
• Demonstrated common sense skills.
• Ability to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests; and escalate appropriately.
• Ability to work without supervision, if needed
• Ability to record work times accurately on a mobile device.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
• This position requires extended periods of standing, walking, reaching, twisting, and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
• This position involves water and slippering ground areas.
• This position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement while gripping.
• This position must be able to lift and/or move boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, up to 50 pounds occasionally.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

Work is performed in an indoor environment with limited privacy and exposure to background noise and/or loud noise from equipment, animals and the public. The ground is often wet and slippery. There are live animals with various temperaments.
