POSITION SUMMARY:   

Under general supervision, the Animal Shelter Technician Lead assures the cleanliness and readiness of animal kennels and shelter facilities for public interaction. This role is responsible for maintaining sanitation protocols, overseeing cleaning staff schedules, and assuring daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks are completed efficiently. The position requires knowledge of animal safety, proper cleaning protocols, and the use of specialized cleaning agents for animal environments.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:  

1. *Assisting site staff to perform daily sanitization/disinfection of kennels using water hoses and appropriate cleaning products.
2. *Assures replacement of bedding and animal comfort in their enclosures.
3. *Assists with washing, folding, and organizing laundry for animal bedding and supplies.
4. *Performs general cleanup and organization of designated workspaces.
5. *Monitors cleaning staff, assuring adequate coverage and task completion.
6. *Assigns daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks to maintain shelter hygiene; and adjust according to shelter needs and priorities.
7. *Fills-in for Animal Technician staff when needed.
8. *Monitors adherence to all safety and sanitation policies.
9. *Monitors cleaning supply inventory and request replenishments as needed.
10. *Following thorough sanitization protocols for work and play areas, as well as shelter equipment.
11. *Comply with all shelter safety protocols, procedures, and policies.
12. *Assure janitorial staff adhere to proper handling and disposal of cleaning agents.
13. *Address and report maintenance or safety concerns to shelter management.
14. *Effectively communicate cleaning priorities and schedules to janitorial staff and shelter personnel.
15. *Respond to cleaning inquiries and requests from team members, volunteers, and the public in a professional manner.
16. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Experience using water hoses, cleaning agents, and sanitation equipment safely.
• Strong ability to work professionally with members of the public, staff, and volunteers.
• Capacity to manage high-stress situations calmly and productively.
• Organizational skills to oversee janitorial tasks and schedules effectively.
• Ability to communicate clearly in English and respond to requests from staff and the public.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative in task management.
• Proficiency in recording work times and schedules accurately using a mobile device.
• Common sense and problem-solving skills to address challenges efficiently.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
 
• This position requires extended periods of standing, walking, reaching, twisting, and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
• This position involves water and slippering ground areas.
• This position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement while gripping.
• This position must be able to lift and/or move boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, up to 50 pounds occasionally.

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

Work is performed in an indoor environment with limited privacy and exposure to background noise and/or loud noise from equipment, animals and the public. The ground is often wet and slippery. There are live animals with various temperaments.
