Job: Floor/Utility Technician Lead

There are no direct reports with this position.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:   

Under limited supervision the Floor/Utility Technician Lead oversees floor care and project operations and daily staff activities at a large commercial or federal facility. Employees in this job class are responsible for the cleaning, stripping, waxing, scrubbing, buffing and restoring of tile, carpet and other flooring surfaces for assigned areas. This job class requires knowledge of floor care practices, floor care equipment, materials, supplies and procedures; the ability to work with developmentally disabled and/or physically challenged adults; and requires personnel to perform quality work in a safe manner at all times.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:  

1. *Schedules required or requested floor tasks or project tasks with supervisor.
2. *Inspect and prepare necessary equipment and chemicals required for scheduled procedures. Prioritizes and assigns tasks and coaches floor techs in performance duties.
3. *Complete necessary floor or periodic project tasks, followed by a quality review of project. Inspects work areas on a regular basis, including outside grounds to ensure quality if included in the work area.
4. *Properly secure all equipment at completion of tasks. Trains and assists floor techs in performing duties, and in the safe and proper use of cleaning products, scrubbers, buffers, pressure washers, and other floor care equipment to meet quality and safety standards.
5. *Request necessary repairs and remove unsafe or broken equipment. Oversees the waxing and buffing of floors on a regular basis.
6. *Oversees the cleaning and maintenance of floor care and pressure washing equipment on a regular basis to ensure proper operation and safe condition.
7. *Order and maintain quantities of supplies, stock, and equipment.
8. *Oversees floor techs performance and quality of work in facilities.
9. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

•At least one year of floor care work experience;
•Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from customers and others;
•Ability to read and follow written instructions on labels for proper and safe use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment;
•Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and/or physical challenges preferred;
•Ability to train employees in proper departmental practices and procedures, including safety and proper use of tools and equipment;
•Ability to learn to use specialized departmental equipment including that used in custodial services such as scrubbers and buffers;
•Knowledge of Cal OSHA occupational safety regulations;
•Knowledge of departmental operations, procedures, and organizational policies;
•Ability to communicate effectively and respond to questions and requests from team, customers and others;
•Effective written communication skills using appropriate business English;
•Human relations skills to maintain effective working relationships with team;
•Effective customer service skills;
•Intermediate computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
•Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division;
•Demonstrated customer service, problem solving and common sense skills.

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

 

Valid Driver's License

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
 
•Maneuvering in and around the worksite
•Standing and walking
•Bending, kneeling, reaching, and stooping
•Lifting boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
•Pushing or pulling objects such as vacuums, carts, mops, etc.
•May be required to push/pull equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
•Grasping both small & large objects
•Climbing ladders and/or step stools

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

Work is performed in an office environment, or at a customer’s location, such as a commissary environment, a federal courthouse, or a military base. Employees may be exposed to toxic chemicals, noise from equipment in maintenance environment, and depending on indoor and outdoor conditions, exposure to cold or heat.
