There are no direct reports with this position.

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 
Under minimal supervision, the Architect will be responsible for developing ideas with client(s) on the design and planning of complex structural items for new and existing facilities. Employees in this job class are responsible for making appropriate recommendations for the design and methods of installation, establishing budgets and assessing the needs of the building and the overall impact within the local environment.   This job class requires advanced knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Develop requirements for future planned construction projects, either through input received from customers or by conducting facility condition assessments.  Strategize facility improvements to satisfy these requirements.
2. *Author statements of work and Facility cost estimates to accurately convey requirements to potential construction contractors.  Present project description and requirements to stakeholders and other disciplines for concurrence.
3. *Review submittals provided by construction contractors, especially for adequacy of design and provide appropriate responses, approval/disapproval and recommend way ahead/action based on technical evaluation.
4. *Oversee execution of facility construction/renovation projects once awarded to a construction contractor by contracting agency.  Review project drawings and construction schedule, ensure consistency with design plans.
5. *Ensure proper closeout and training of completed projects.  Ensure completed construction is capitalized, training on maintenance is given and manuals as-built drawings etc. are retained on file.
6. *Deconflict competing construction requirements, ensure ongoing projects are advertised to client and base population to minimize mission impact, work with impacted parties to provide alternative solutions during interruptions. 
7. *Provide updates to base leadership on forthcoming projects and requirements under development, identify when guidance or direction is required from client leadership to ensure final project satisfies high-visibility requirements.
8. *Respond to emergent facility crises that require engineering and/or technical input, help develop and present solutions needed to correct failed/failing infrastructure systems.
9. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Five or more years of proven architecture experience with strong portfolio to prove artistic skill;
• Two or more years of working knowledge with AutoCAD software;
• Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria or similar facility/building costs;
• Ability to read project drawings, use computer aided drafting/design software, provide project renderings;
• Ability to provide thorough and accurate assessments of facility conditions;
• Knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards;
• Strong imagination and the ability to think and create in three dimensions;
• Visual awareness and an eye for detail;
• Drawing skills and familiarity with design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Sketch Up, 3d Studio VIZ;
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to make presentations and respond to inquiries by management, team, vendors and/or customers;
• Human relation skills to build effective relationships with team and internal customers;
• Intermediate to advanced computer literacy including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software;
• Knowledge of business English including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation;
• Mathematical skills to include the ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations;
• Ability to establish priorities and solve a wide range of business problems;
• Demonstrated customer service, common sense, problem solving and analytical skills;
• Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle numerous projects at the same time.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors in Architecture or related field

 

 

CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

 

Fed Security Clearance

Architecture License preferred

Valid Driver's License

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 

• Viewing computer screen/monitor  
• Utilizing keyboard
• Answering phone/making calls

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise.
