POSITION SUMMARY: 
Under close supervision, the Cafeteria Attendant performs cleaning tasks at a customer location whose primary function is to operate and clean food service equipment for sanitation purposes and provide general maintenance in a food service environment, such as a cafeteria on a military base. 

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. *Operates Food Service Equipment, such as a dishwasher or clipper by manually rinsing pots and pans, utensils, silverware, glasses, plates, and bowls that are stacked in dish racks and pushed through equipment to be mechanically sanitized; maintains proper temperature of such equipment and add cleaning solution as needed.
2. *Unloads silverware into utensil containers and stacks dinnerware in provided containers to take to the appropriate dining and kitchen areas.
3. *Places clean pots and pans in specific designated kitchen areas
4. *Dining Room Services to include wiping down and sanitizing surfaces such as tables, chairs, food counters, cappuccino and coffee machines, ice dispenser, beverage and salad station, etc.
5. *Stock food service areas to ensure there is adequate supply of glasses, plates, napkins, and utensils for customers use
6. *Bussing Services to include removing dirty dishes from dining tables and loading them into bins on pushcarts for transport from dining to dishwashing area; the leftover food on the dirty dishes and/or other items are scraped into the garbage and set on the clipper or dishwashing counter for rinsing, washing, and sanitizing.
7. *Cleans spilled food or drinks promptly in dining facility and carries away broken dishes and other waste items to trash bins
8.  *Replenish dining items (napkins, salt, pepper, condiments, plastic utensils, etc.)
9.  *Sweeps and mops floors after spills, during and between meals
10.  *Vacuums floors between meals
11. Cleans and sanitizes cooking grills by using a stone hand scrubber and green pad to scrub and remove all food particles by using a back and forth motion until all particles on the grill have been lifted and removed into the attached catch pans; catch pan contents are emptied into a garbage disposal then placed in the dishwashing area for cleaning and sanitation; catch pans are returned to grill for set up; once the grill is cleaned, a paper towel is used to spread a light coat of oil across the top of the grill;
12. Cleans and sanitizes deep fat fryers by draining cooled oil into a stainless steel hose that connects to the fryer; oils is drained in a pan and dumped into a grease barrel; repetitive washing and rinsing of fryers with hot, soapy water and then clear water to clean and rinse for removal of any soap residue
13.  Responsible for cleaning up to ten feet of the facilities outside perimeter that includes picking up and throwing away cigarette butts, cans, bottles, plastic utensils, etc.
14.  Removes trash and breakdown cardboard to transport to trash and recycle bins; replace trash liners
15.  Cleans bathrooms by conducting spot checks throughout meals and thorough cleaning, such as wiping down and sanitizing walls, mirrors, countertops, toilets, after meals
16.  Replenish bathroom items (toilet paper, soap, paper towels, toilet seat covers)
17. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Follow instructions using structured process and procedures;
• Identify and work with appropriate tools/equipment;
• Flexibility of schedule changes, work duration, and task assignments;
• Availability to work mornings, days, evenings and weekends;
• Ability to work collaboratively with management, employees, customers, vendors and demonstrate good customer service;
• Ability to work with and around electrical and mechanical equipment, sharp utensils, slick floors, hot steam and water;
• Ability to comply with safety programs and practices;
• Customer service skills that include greeting patrons in a courteous manner; provide professional responses to questions that relate to the operations of business; assist or direct customers to appropriate areas or personnel; help customers with special needs, etc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 

• Maneuvering in and around the worksite
• Standing and walking
• Bending, kneeling, reaching, and stooping
• Lifting boxes or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds, and up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Pushing or pulling objects such as vacuums, carts, mops, etc.
• May be required to push/pull equipment weighing up to 70 pounds
• Grasping both small & large objects
• Climbing ladders and/or step stools

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work is primarily performed indoors in a cafeteria setting with exposure to various background noise which includes equipment, customers, and others working.
