POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Accounting Clerk III performs one or more accounting tasks such as posting to registers and ledgers, balancing and reconciling accounts, and verifying the internal consistency, completeness, and mathematical accuracy of accounting and/or payroll documents, assigning prescribed accounting distribution codes, and examining and verifying the clerical accuracy of various types of reports, lists, calculations, and postings.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:
1. * Prepares and maintains journal vouchers or subsidiary ledgers of accounting systems.
2. * Balances and reconciles accounts.
3. * Makes entries of adjustments to accounts.
4. * Works with various spreadsheets.  Working with government systems may also be required.
5. * Reviews invoices and statements, verifying information.
6. * Ensures sufficient funds have been obligated to accounts.
7. * Resolves discrepancies with the submitting unit, determining accounts involved.
8. * Reviews include coding transactions, and processing material through data processing for application in the accounting system.
9. * Analyzes and reconciles computer printouts with operating unit reports (contacting units, researching causes of discrepancies, and taking action to ensure that accounts balance).
10. *Communicates with internal and external customers by phone, email and in person.
11. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• 2 to 3 years of experience in the accounting field.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of the terminology, codes, and processes used in an automated accounting system.
• Working knowledge and understanding of established and standardized bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
• Experience in general office or accounting office preferred.
• Typing skills using computer keyboard, and perhaps a printing calculator.
• Personal computer literacy including word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
• Human relations skills to maintain effective relationships with others and work in a team environment.
• Fundamental mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Oral and written communication skills to provide factual and procedural information, and to understand and follow instructions.
• Flexibility to respond to changing work priorities and handle multiple requests at the same time.
• Demonstrated common sense skills.
• Ability to act responsively to customer inquiries and requests and escalate appropriately.

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 

• Maneuvering to and around equipment
• Bending, stooping, and reaching
• Utilizing keyboard
• Monitoring computer systems
• May include viewing computer/CCTV monitor(s) and detailed work requiring close vision
• Moving or lifting boxes up to 25 pounds
• Answering/making phone calls 
• Communicating with others

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is primarily performed at a customer’s location in an office / shop environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise and/or noise from equipment.  Transporting to locations with the work site may be required.  Employees may also be exposed to extreme cold or heat.
